Carpet cleaning probably isn’t the first thing that pops into your head when you start thinking about ways to keep your home protected. However, then you stumble an online article like this – Is your carpet making you sick? – which raises these concerns:
- Over the course of a year, carpets can accumulate 40 pounds of dirt.
- The virus responsible for the stomach flu, Norovirus, can live on an uncleaned carpet for a month.
- One of the five dirtiest places in the home, in terms of germs, can be the output from a vacuum.
- Falls around the home are often caused by loose or worn carpet.
Now, before you rush to tear out your carpet and turn your home into a cleanroom worthy of scientific research, consider a couple of points.
First, as I noted in February, carpets help to trap dust, pollens, and pollutants just like the air filter in your furnace. In other words, that dirt is already in your home and your carpet is actually keeping it out of the air, and in turn, your lungs.
Second, a combination of regular vacuuming (with a well-maintained vacuum) and professional carpet cleaning can help to mitigate the first 3 points. For example, our hot water extraction method is designed to provide the ultimate in cleaning power without over wetting the area. The last point is a legitimate concern but easily identified and remedied. (We can assist with carpet repair and installation.)
The bottom line is, like most things in and around your home, your carpets require some care and maintenance. If you aren’t sure about how to find the best carpet cleaner in your area, start by looking for an A+ BBB Accreditation. Our guide for how to pick the right carpet cleaning company offers a downloadable checklist.
